How it works
How does heat recovery work?
Heat-recovery ventilation is a controlled ventilation system that brings a constant supply of fresh air into your rooms while extracting stale air. The key component is a heat exchanger, where the warm extracted air meets the cold incoming air.
Inside the exchanger, heat is transferred – the extracted air gives up to 95 % of its heat to the incoming fresh air. This dramatically reduces heating costs because you no longer ‘ventilate the heat away’.
Modern recovery units also filter the incoming air, removing dust, pollen and other particulates. Ventilation runs automatically without the need to open windows – a real benefit during the pollen season or in noisy locations.
Why it pays off
Why install heat-recovery ventilation?
- ✓A constant supply of fresh air without opening windows
- ✓Heating savings thanks to recovered heat
- ✓Lower dust levels and pollen filtration – relief for allergy sufferers
- ✓Reduced ambient noise with windows closed
- ✓Mould prevention through controlled humidity
- ✓Better concentration and sleep quality
Typical applications
Where is heat-recovery ventilation installed most often?
New builds
Heat-recovery ventilation is now standard in low-energy and passive houses. The duct routes are planned into the project from the outset.
Apartment refurbishments
Decentralised units can be installed in existing flats without major building works.
Family homes
Central recovery with ducting throughout the house ensures comfortable air quality everywhere.
Offices and schools
Quality air boosts productivity and focus. Heat-recovery ventilation is the right choice for spaces with many occupants.
Allergy sufferers
Filtration of pollen, dust and pollutants brings real relief. The air indoors is cleaner than outside.
Noisy locations
Living near a busy road? Heat recovery ventilates with the windows closed – no noise, no dust.
How we work
How is heat-recovery ventilation installed?
Consultation and concept
We analyse the premises, recommend the right type of unit and plan the duct routes. For new builds we collaborate with your architect.
Duct design
We prepare a complete project, including duct sizing, diffuser placement and the control concept. Your layout and comfort needs guide every decision.
Installation
We install the recovery unit, route the ductwork to every room and connect all distribution components. Installation typically takes 1–3 days.
Commissioning and handover
We balance the airflows, configure the controls and filtration, and train you on operation and maintenance – particularly filter changes.
Maintenance & service
Maintaining heat-recovery ventilation
Heat-recovery systems require regular filter changes – we recommend every 3–6 months depending on outdoor air quality. The filters trap dust, pollen and other particulates and are critical to the unit’s performance.
Once a year we recommend a professional inspection and cleaning of the heat exchanger, fans and ducting. Proper maintenance keeps efficiency high and the system running for many years.
We offer service packages that include regular inspections, cleaning and replacement filter delivery – so there is nothing for you to worry about.
